There’s a new book out about the “Secret Life” of flowers. The book features photography by Robert Llewellyn of Albermarle County, Virginia. He brings together hundreds of pictures of lovely flowers that are sure to please anyone with an eye for beauty. That’s us, of course, but what really caught our eyes was the comments from the lady who wrote the text, Teri Dunn Chace.
The author of some 30 books, the previous one she had put out was a depressing look at invasive plant species and the harm they do. To paraphrase, coming from that project to this one was like a breath of fresh air. The book, she said, “appreciates flowers from every angle.”
Well, as florists, we can get behind that statement as we, too, appreciate flowers from every angle. But we just thought it was rather neat that a professional author had that insight, too. If you pick up the book, it covers 300 flowers from 28 different plant families. It would make a good Christmas present, especially when paired with a thoughtful flower delivery from daFlores.
The photographer took pictures of flowers that made him say “wow.” There are ultra-closeups with breathtaking detail. Some photographic magic was used, with special software creating the flower image from several closeups so that everything was in perfect focus and the whole flower was included.
If you want to get up-close and personal with your holiday flowers, consider daFlores for your work.
